You're scared. And I get that. It's terrifying being on the verge of doing something you've dreamed about for years not knowing if you'll make it through; if you'll find the right words; if anyone will even care when it's all said and done.

So do something for me. Make a list of all those doubts. Put them down on paper. Let ink bleed from pen like blood gushing from a vein. Get it all out of your system and once it's out, let those doubts stay on that piece of paper because you don't need them. Rip it up. Burn it. Tuck it away in a secret spot.

Then, give yourself permission to dream.


Press your face to the surface of the Pensive of your writer's world. Let the metallic liquid ripple against your skin and allow yourself to fall down, down, down into the alternate reality trapped inside your head. Once you're completely immersed, let the words flow. It doesn't have to be perfect - just honest.

It's downright frightening teetering on the edge of that make believe world you have faith in, unsure if you'll be able to pull yourself out once you fall in. So you know what? Don't find your way out. Live there. Become one of the inhabitants of the farthest reaches of your imagination. Wear their clothes. Listen to their music. Dream their dreams. The story will be that much better for it.

Stop worrying that everyone around you will complain you're spacey, disconnected, quiet. You've heard it all before. You'll hear it all again. Dream and don't let them stop you just because they think you're crazy or weird. They're probably too rooted in reality to understand why it matters anyway.

You know why this is important? Because of this blog post right here. There's other people that get it. There's other people out there - people you know and admire and are inspired by - who have that same terrified "is this good enough" feeling when they put pen to paper.

The only difference between you and them right now is they go through with it.

You have permission to dream. Now go do something amazing with it.
